January Newsletter
Greeting in the wonderful name of Jesus from Belize, Central America.
This month, January 2007, the Joiner Family will be celebrating our sixth year on the mission field of Belize. We came to Belize not knowing anyone here, only having a name of someone who was interested in truth. In the past six years God has blessed us to build a beautiful headquarters church and a Christian school with the enrollment of forty students. These students are all members of our church. We have also purchased property and built a church in San Felipe. We are now looking to purchase property in Los Floras, where we have church in the home of the pastor. Please pray that God will provide this need as we have outgrown the home and are in real need of a church building. Property is costly in the Los Floras area and we are having a hard time finding property there. We know that God has the perfect place for us there. It is all in His time. We also have two preaching points down in the southern part of Belize. Punta Gorda, Toledo District. Please pray for these humble people that God will give us revival among them. These people are of the Mayan and Ketchie Indian tribes.
We have finally been able to get our residence in Belize. For the past five years we have been working here, using missionary workers permits. Workers permits have to be applied for and approved annually. It is always a hassle trying to get this done. We are thankful that this has been another milestone reached. A while back someone asked me how often we get to go home and if we ever get homesick. I had to honesty reply that Belize is home to my family and I. The hardest part is having my parents in the nursing home and when I call them, they always want to know when I am coming home.
I read where missionaries years ago actually would pack their belongings in a casket, signifying their commitment to the field of their calling. They were going to give their lives to the mission field. We now understand and have that same feeling. The people of this country have become our people. As we ride through unreached villages and towns, it can become so frustrating because I can only wonder if there will be enough time left to raise up ministers to go forth and win this country. But the need is not only here in Belize. God has begun to send us many Guatemalans who are receiving the Holy Ghost and are being rooted in truth.
We recently added up the cultures and countries that are represented in our churches. We have English, Creole, Mennonites, Chinese, Maya Indians, Ketchi Indians, Mestizo, and Spanish. Countries that are represented are America, Mexico, China, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and of course Belize. Who would ever dream that in the small country of Belize this would be? We came here not knowing how to be missionaries and still don't know a lot, but this one thing I have learned, is that Apostolic preaching will work any where in the world.
We are happy to announce our first Grand baby, a beautiful little girl. A new missionary is born! Markaly Joiner Our son Mark, who works with us here full time as a missionary, married one of our first converts in Belize two years ago. My wife and I, and our daughter, Haley, are enjoying our roles as grandparents and aunt. Haley, of course being the aunt.
Rev Sammy Frioux of Jeanerette, La. was with us in Oct. and did a great job preaching in our churches here. We have reaped from his ministry. On the 30th of November, Pastor Mark Smith of Purvis, MS, Pastor Rudy Thrasher of Columbia, TN, Pastor Daniel Stevens of Mountain View, AR, and Pastor Ivan Dowd of Glen Allen, MO, plus some of their church members, came to Belize on a cruise and we were able to pick them up and take them to our headquarters church. We had a special service with these good folks. A good time of preaching, singing, prayer, and fellowship was in order. Then we took them back to their cruise ship and they were on their way. What a pleasure it was to see our friends and to have them in a service with us.
We are always thankful for the men of God that visit us here. We have recently been blessed with the ministry of Pastor Mark Albernathy and his wife, Edna. Pastor Abernathy did some tremendous preaching and was used in the gifts. Thanks, my friend for taking time out of your busy schedule to be with us. You were a blessing! We also had Pastor Scott Wilson and his son, Jonathon, from Gonzales, Louisiana here with and we were blessed with their singing and preaching. Pastor Wilson was used mightily of the Lord. Thanks for obeying God Bro Wilson, we were blessed.
Special Prayer Requests and Needs:
1. We have a burden to start a church in the town of Orange Walk. Orange Walk is the second largest town in all of Belize. We are running a bus out of this town and we are bringing some families come from Orange Walk to our church in Guinea Grass. Please pray that God will open the doors for us in this town. We will need a building to get started and we know that God has the perfect place for his work to go forward.
2. The roads here are very bad and therefore the conditions of the roads take their toll on our vehicles. They just don't last a long time. We are desperately in need of a large passenger bus, as ours is worn out and has become a money pit of constant repairs. We are also in need of a passenger van for ours is also worn out. Both has been rebuilt and worked on over and over. Not many people here own vehicles, so to get them to church from the farms and other villages we must supply transportation. Please help us pray.
What has been done in the work of God here in Belize would not have been possible if it was not for our supporters who have faithfully supported us in finances and prayer. Only eternity will tell the story of how many souls have been reached because you have been willing to share our burden. GO is still in the Gospel!!! While all cannot go, you have made it possible for the Joiner family to work for God in Belize, Central America.
God Bless You All
